Black and navy blue are the only discernable colors under a brightly lit moon over Santa Monica Beach, and young seven year old Justin Kim is amazed by what he sees. His mind goes through a train of thoughts as to why he can only see small fish making ripples on the surface and why he can’t see the bottom. On that day, Justin decides that he wants to see what lies in the dark below by studying to become a marine biologist. Although at the age of 13 he remains loyal to this personal goal, many other job opportunities also appear, giving Justin a sense of doubt about his goal. Confused and worried that he might not become a marine biologist, Justin ran home and isolated himself for as long as he could under the bed sheets. Every chance Justin got ever since that day, he repeated the same routine over and over again until April 4, 2015.
It was unusually warm for a spring evening, and Justin wanted to cool off in a tub of bubble filled water. While his bath rapidly filled with water, Justin began to find it hard for him to see the bottom of the bath with the forming bubbles in the way. Then, an idea clicked in Justin’s mind. He realized that the other job opportunities could be represented by the bubbles of his bath. Justin pictured the bottom of the bath to be his dream, and all he had to do to reach it was pop all the alternative paths. The simplicity of rejecting excess thoughts of unwanted and uninteresting jobs astonished him, and to this day, I, Justin Kim, have vowed to pop my obstacles in order to reach my personal goal.
