Lookism: Self-Perception

Only in relation to our imagination can things be called
beautiful or ugly...

- Spinoza
Goal:
  • Students will explore the perceptions they have of themselves.
  • In watching videos and reading articles they will be exposed to common threads of perceptions.
  • Students will use critical thinking skills to brainstorm on ways to move towards the idea of body positivity.

The assignments that have activities are in red.

1. Self-Perception
Rate your own physical appearance
on a scale from 1 - 10

1 = least attractive. 10 = most attractive

Consider such things as:
Facial features

Teeth/Smile
Hair,

Weight/Shape
Skin tone

  1. What score did you give yourself and why?
  2. Write your rationale down in detail.
  3. Hold on to that number -  *we will refer back to it later.
