Objective: Students will engage in a civil discourse over a topic of interest that can be debated.: 
Overview
  • These are just a couple of topics that can be discussed.
  • Click on the buttons for Freedom of Speech and Activism for information on topics..
  • Students can add more evidence from reliable sources. 
  • ​​Topics can be discussed as Socratic Seminar, Philosophical Chair, Fishbowl, Formal Debate....

Part A. Instructions for the Assignment: Civil Discourse
  • Read the articles and watch the video to help prepare for your assignment.
  • Read the two topics Freedom of Speech and Performance v. Substantive Activism.
  • Choose one of the topics to discuss. 
  1. It is important to keep an open mind for the possibility that you might change your viewpoint.
  2. The conversation should move towards problem solving.

Part B. Create Your Own Topic for Civil Discourse
  • Choose a different topic and search for information that will allow for an in depth discussion.
  • Take note of the resources gathered for the previous two topics in this lesson.
  • Gather information from reliable sources before beginning your debate/civil discourse.​
